Digital Rights Country Forums

EngageMedia, in collaboration with a consortium of partners, is set to host four in-person forums to create spaces and opportunities for collaborations and knowledge-sharing among digital rights actors, which have been severely limited by COVID-19 restrictions.

The four forums will be held in the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Cambodia, with a goal to bring in new voices to the digital rights movement and strengthen existing connections between media, journalism, human rights, gender, labour, academia, and technology sectors.

Through the forums, changemakers across the region can come together to discuss and collaborate on approaches to pressing digital rights issues.

The four forums kick off a series of events building up to the Asia-Pacific Digital Rights Festival in May 2023, which will convene over 300 participants from various sectors to catalyse important conversations on vital digital rights issues.

Country Forums Schedules

The forums are open to interested participants from the digital rights, human rights, journalism, academia, technology, and other civil society sectors:

  • Bangkok, Thailand: October 29 and 30, 2022
  • Manila, Philippines: November 4 and 5, 2022
  • Phnom Penh, Cambodia: November 22 and 23, 2022
  • Jakarta, Indonesia: November 24 and 25, 2022

The forums are envisioned to be a space for sharing experiences and building solidarity around key digital rights issues in the region. To facilitate lively discussions, the forums will utilise the open space technology approach to allow participants to share ideas and connect with each other in an informal setting. Participants are free to set the agenda, form their own discussions around a central theme, and steer dynamic conversations.

Editor’s Note: The schedules of the Manila and Jakarta forums have been updated to November 4-5 (Manila) and November 24-25 (Jakarta).
