During 2009 and 2010, EngageMedia undertook a major project in Indonesia aimed at creating local archives for video-makers to be able to store and share their work. The archives were built using Plumi and each one would essentially operate as a website, but were also accessible via the local area connection or wireless network.
The project involved setting up a series of four local servers in Jakarta and Yogyakarta with four different organisations; Kampung Halaman, COMBINE a Community-based Information Network, Resource Institution; Indonesian Visual Art Archive (IVAA); and Ruangrupa.
The first archive created was Video Depot, a local repository of video content using the Plumi software. EngageMedia teamed up with Kampung Halaman to produce six deployments of Video Depots across Indonesia. Read about them here.
The second and third phase of the Local Archives project in Indonesia took place during May 6 – 15, 2009 in Yogyakarta at COMBINE a Community-based Information Network, Resource Institution and at Indonesian Visual Art Archive (IVAA). Read more here.
During April 15-17, 2010, EngageMedia hosted a Plone based Video Archive Camp in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesian Visual Art Archive. The camp continued EngageMedia’s work of setting up a series of Plumi based offline video archives, as well as developing new strategies and tactics for digital video distribution.
